fucked hair, and ruined makeup?” She explained her hands moving wildly in the air as she picked up her clothes.
“Oh, that girl.” Jason nodded his head, not hiding the pleased smile on his face. “Well, if you take a shower you will just look like the girl who slept in her clothes rather than the just fucked girl, though I wouldn’t mind it in the least.”
Isabel snorted. “Of course, you wouldn’t. But I still need to shower and you need to get dressed if you are going to help me storm the castle today.”
“Or we could shower and then after you talk to your father, storm the castle together.” Jason stood from the bed, his long muscular legs approaching her fast.
Eyes locked on the glorious sight he made, she let the clothes fall from her hands. “Or we could.”

Several hours later than she wanted, Isabel found herself standing outside her father’s house. A small two bedroom with shuttered windows and a small patio, it had been her house not too long ago before Vincent had insisted she move into one of his guest bedrooms.
She didn’t know how she had ever let herself be convinced into leaving. She loved her father’s house and had been vehement with Jason about waiting until they were married before she ever moved out. Not just for her benefit but for her father’s, who didn’t have much going for him nowadays.
Walking up the front porch, she paused outside the door not sure if she should knock or just enter. While she tried to decide, her father made up her mind for her by opening the front door, a surprised look on his face that when he got a load of her eye turned into an angry frown.
    “What in the hell happened?”
“Hi, daddy.” She gave a weak smile, her head ducked down.
“Well, don’t just stand there, come on in.” Her father opened the door wider and gestured her through. “Then you can tell me what man thought they could lay a hand on my daughter.”
Taking a seat in the living room, Isabel watched her father move through the house. Short like her, his hair was completely grey as were his beard and mustache. He was stocky through the middle and had a bad cough most days from smoking too much in his younger years. Pushing seventy, she was surprised he had lasted this long without needing a nurse around.
“I like what you’ve done with the place.” She gestured to the new paint that hadn’t been there last week; a kind of white green that really did nothing for the beige furniture.
“Now don’t be trying to distract me.” He waved a hand at her, his eyes narrowed on her bruised eye. “Who hit you? That mutt?”
Her father never did approve of her going to work for Vincent, not to help him or for any reason. When he found out she was dating him, he about had a heart attack. There was one thing her father and Jason had in common, they both didn’t care for sups, but at least Jason was more tactful about it. Her father, well, he could be a bit harsh.
“I told you he was trouble and you should stay away from him, didn’t I?” He wagged a finger at her, when she didn’t answer his question.
“I was only trying to help. How were you going to pay back the money without it?” Isabel reminded him.
“I would have found a way,” he grumbled, crossing his arms over his chest. “It was my problem, and I should have dealt with it, not you. I wish I’d never stepped foot in that damned place, then you would have never met that miserable wolf.”
Isabel sighed, there was no reasoning with him when he got like this. He could go on for hours and hours and she would never get out what she came to say.
“I was coming to talk to you about that actually.” She touched her eye briefly, the area still tender. “I found out some rather unpleasant news about Vincent and plan to break up with him.”
“On your own?” Her father jumped up from his chair. “After he already hit you once? I won’t have it! I’m coming with you.”
“Now hold on a second.” She
