quickly,” Niall said, disengaging their bodies
befo re bending and slipping into his own clothes much
quicker than Alaina.
    He cursed, making her
look back up at him. “What’s wrong?” Alaina wished she had a way of washing up.
She envied Niall’s ability to just slip the condom off, toss it away and he
would b e clean, where she had a mess and nothing in
the woods to…
    “The condom broke.”
His harsh words jolted her.
    She shrugged, hurt at
his tone and accusing look. “I get the shot.” When he looked at her like she
was speaking Swahili, she explained about the birt h
control shot. “I started getting it a while back, which is really none of your
business, but since you were my first and seem worried, I can tell you I have
no diseases. Now, how about you?”
    Wriggling into her
panties, and then her pants, she didn’t look at Niall
again. The silence stretched for several long seconds.
    “I don’t have any diseases.”
    “Good. Can we drop it
then?” Somewhat decent she was ready for the walk of shame.
    “Are you embarrassed
for what we just did?” he growled.
    Alaina’s eyes flew up
to his laser blue gaze. “Good Lord, no. I thought you
were.”
    “I’m not, but I didn’t
want you to be. I’m fucking this up and my…friend is not far from here. I
didn’t want him to see you naked.”
    She pursed her lips.
He was going to say pack mate, but stopped a nd she
knew it was because he didn’t think she knew about wolves. Still, his words and
actions made no sense to her. Was he or wasn’t he upset that the condom broke?
Did he think she’d make him marry her if she got pregnant? Again, the thought
of marriage frightened her. The last memory she had
was of going to her class to teach in Baltimore.
    A sharp pain stabbed
behind her eyes when she tried to remember teaching that day. Sucking in a
sharp breath, Alaina reached up to rub her temple. Niall’s hand slid in to her messy hair making her moan as he massaged the back
of her head.
    “What is it?” he
asked.
“I had a vision of me
going to class. I can remember sitting at my desk helping a student who
couldn’t figure out the program we were working on. Her name is Jay, a really sweet girl, and then this pain began.”
    Niall’s warm lips
touched her forehead. “Don’t force it, babe. It’ll come to you. Let’s see what
Jett has found.” He left her side momentarily to scan the area, always within
sight of her. His friend Jet t arrived within a few
minutes, long strides eating up the distance. Jeezus, did all the men in Mystic
look as good as the three she’d encountered so far?
    Alaina gulped, eyeing
Niall as he narrowed his angry glare at her. Looking up at him, she raised an e yebrow, wondering why he was angry now. Her body throbbed
and ached from their recent bout of tree sex. She always joked with her friends
that her dream man would have to be able to have wall sex with her. Niall
clearly fit the bill, although it was tree, not wall,
she figured it was close enough. The man was a threat to her sanity with his
muscular, tattooed body, reddish blond hair, and his smile…lawd, she swore her
panties were in a perpetual state of dampness from that alone.
“ You going to introduce me to your mate, al…Niall?”
    She didn’t think the
man she’d just given herself to was going to answer Jett, his jaw had a visible tick indicating his displeasure.
Alaina wrapped her arms over her breasts that were still raw from where he’d
sucked and bitten th em. The image brought heat to her
face and arousal flooding her once again.
    Both men flared their
noses and she was aware they could smell her, damn their enhanced senses.
    With a groan, Niall
prowled back to her. “God damn it, you are enough to drive a san e man fucking nuts.” One hand fisted in the back of her
shirt, the other ran up her spine.
Alaina’s skin came alive, need growing again, melting away
her insecurities.
    Running her hands up
his chest, over his shoulders, she
