    “I think you should move in with us,” I said, then covered my mouth. Oh geez. I should have talked to Dave before I said anything to Todd first. But I’d been thinking about it for a while, and it just spilled out.
    Todd’s face lit up with a big grin. It was obvious that he loved the idea.
    I knew Dave loved Todd like a brother. Maybe he had been thinking about it too? I could only hope. I glanced over at him to see what he would say.
    “No, I don’t want Todd living with us here,” Dave replied firmly.
    I gasped and I could hear Todd suck in his breath. We were both in shock. If Dave didn’t want Todd living with us, he could have handled it better. Why did he have to be so blunt?  It was painful.
    “Dave!” I shook my head.
    “I understand, Beverly. Dave’s been very generous letting me join the two of you in the relationship, and maybe he is not ready to go to the next step.” Though Todd sounded as if he understood; his manner told a different story. His face was crestfallen as he started to pull on his boxers dejectedly.
    “Get dressed, Beverly,” Dave said. He climbed out of bed and started yanking on his jeans.
    A million thoughts ran through my head. Was he throwing me out with Todd? I climbed out of bed and started pulling on my shirt and pants.
    “I want to show you both something.”
    Dave had a serious expression on his face and I felt myself tense. What was going on?
    We all finished getting dressed and walked into the living room. Todd reached for his car keys. “Put those down,” Dave said. “You don’t need them right now. Follow me.”
    Todd and I walked behind Dave. I felt sick to my stomach and Todd had a sad puppy dog look on his face. He looked like he felt unloved. I put my arms around his slumped shoulders.
    Dave pressed the elevator button.
    “What’s going on?” I asked.
    “You’ll see.” He pressed the button for the 8 th floor.
    When we got out of the elevator, he led us to apartment 822 and opened the door.
    “I guess Mrs. Oakley gave you those keys and you need to fix something in here. Do you need our help?” Todd asked.
    Dave grinned. “Nah, what do you think of the place?” Dave asked.
    I looked around. It was a beautiful, large airy apartment with a view, much more than we could ever afford. “Umm, it’s great. But what are we doing here? Am I missing something?”
    “Well, I got hired to manage this building.”
    “Wha… whoa! What happened to Mrs. Oakley?” I asked.
    Todd scratched his head. “Did she run off with the guy in apartment 836?”
    “Ha ha! No she is retiring. My interview was for her job. She recommended me. And not only did I get hired to take her place, but I am also managing another building that the same company owns. The salary is decent—better than I expected. And a rent free apartment is one of the perks, so it’s even better!”
    “Oh my gosh! That’s amazing!” I cried, giving Dave a hug.
    Dave looked at Todd. “Todd, Beverly and I would love it if you would come to make a home with us here in our new place.”
    I looked over at Todd. This was more than I could ever have dreamed! His eyes were lit up with happiness.
    “Oh, for sure!” Todd slapped Dave on the back. I could see his eyes were moist. “For a minute there I was like…”
    Dave waved his hand in the air. “Todd, I love you and Beverly, and we are a family—all three of us. And I want us to live our lives together, forever. I think we all do.”
    “I love you, Dave and Bev. I can’t wait to move in!” Todd said.
    I smiled. “I love you all so much!” And we melted into each other’s arms…
