mistake. Heâs a blessing. But I would much rather not have him be a father before heâs out of high school. Or college, for that matter.â âIs there a health class in the high school curriculum?â âYes, but Iâm his mom. I feel as if I should have a conversation with him. Shouldnât that come from me?â âHe wonât want to hear it from his mom.â âVoice of experience?â âNot exactly. Dad said something to me and I still didnât want to hear it. Thatâs just the way boys are.â He met her gaze. âSo, no one special for him yet?â âHeâs only fourteen. Too young to date.â âI can talk to him about this if you want.â Maybe make up for not being around when he should have been. âWould you?â She hugged him. âLet him know Iâm willing to have a conversation about anything he wants, but didnât want to embarrass him. And tell him thatââ âIâll let you write out the talk on five-by-seven cards if that would make you more comfortable,â he teased. She laughed. âNo. Just make sure heâs ready for anything when he starts dating. Itâs important for him, but he also has to protect any young woman he might be with.â âIâll make sure he understands.â He cleared his throat. âSpeaking of dates... April said sheâll be taking pictures at the wedding.â âYeah. Sheâs the best. Even if I decide to have it in the backyard.â He ignored her little flare-up of nerves. âIs she seeing anyone?â âShe sees a lot of people. After all she has a business and works with the publicââ âI meant is she dating anyone?â âOf course,â Kim said. âSheâs really pretty and a lot of fun. Guys ask her out all the time. And thereâs this one. Jean Luc. Heâs a same-time-next-year ski instructor whoâs here every winter.â That information was more unsettling than Will had expected. The idea of her with another guy really bugged him. That was something of a surprise, even more than her being friendly. âSo no one right now?â he asked. âNot that I know of.â Again Kim had that overly innocent thing going on. âWhy?â âShe tells you everything. What do you think about me asking her to dinner?â Kim stood and looked down at him, possibly with pity in her eyes. âSheâs probably not interested, but youâve got nothing to lose by asking.â âOkay, then.â âNow that Iâve let off steam, there are lists to make and stuff to plan.â She started out of the room. âGood talk, Will.â âYeah.â Maybe. But he couldnât shake the feeling that Kim was wrongâand he had a lot to lose if April said no.
