her mouth to answer, but Kane beat her to it. âItâs true. This all started out as a lie, but itâs damn sure not a lie now.â
âDonât curse in the church,â her mother scolded, but she was still fighting back a smile.
âSorry,â Kane quickly said. âBut I hope you heard the part about this not being a lie.â He turned to her. âItâs not a lie, is it?â
âNo.â Eliza answered as fast as she could, and she shook her head so thereâd be no misunderstanding.
The doors behind them opened, and thatâs when Eliza realized Kane and she had more of an audience than just the wedding party and her folks. Most of the guests had left their seats and were right there, listening. Good. It meant she could clear this up once and for all.
She pulled Kane back to her. âEverything I feel for you is the real deal.â
He smiled. First a happy smile, but it turned a little naughty. It was a naughtiness she recognized, since sheâd been on the receiving end of it during their marathon night of sex. He clearly wanted a repeat of that night. And he would get it, after the wedding.
âYeah, definitely the real deal,â he agreed. âIâm thinking this could be the start of something...â His gaze drifted down to her face. Then to her dress. â...really, really interesting.â
Eliza had no trouble agreeing to that, either. And it didnât have anything to do with the fact that she was dressed like a cow or that Kane smelled like one.
âAre you staying for the wedding?â Violet asked at the same moment her father asked, âKane, exactly what are your intentions with my daughter?â
Kane smiled again. âYes,â he said to Violet before looking at her father. âAnd as for my intentions, well, theyâre the best kind when it comes to Eliza.â
Eliza figured that meant she was in for all sorts of good things ahead, and she got a sneak peek at one of those things when Kane hauled her back to him and kissed her.
